Through the blood dripping down a staircase, this indicates that whatever caused the blood must have happened very recently in the film resulting in the audience being engaged as they want to find out the cause of it. This makes the audience want to watch the rest f film as they are intrigued.
I consider the target audience for this film to be people of a mature nature. This is in conjunction with the age rating that it was given, an 18.
The producers of this film were Rob Tapert, Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. This is shown clearly 36 seconds into the opening when their names are written in the same red font as if it has been written in blood. This was done effectively to carry on the theme of danger. This is seen below.
For our analysis on these titles, we focus on 4 specific questions. They are;
- How does the title sequence establish genre, character and narrative?
- How does the title sequence attract an audience's interest?
- What do you consider to be the target and why?
- Who produced the film and how has this proven in the main title sequence?
In the titles of the Evil dead, the horror genre is established quickly as from the first few seconds, The words EVIL DEAD appear in large, red writing. The red in this scenario demonstrates danger, something that is often associated with horror films. This seen below.
Furthermore, within the first 20 seconds, blood appears. Blood is genuine stereotype that is purposely placed into many horror films to show a level of disgust and the fact that something dangerous such as a murder has more than likely taken place. This can be seen below.
